But what are your rights when your flight is canceled or delayed due to bad weather?<\/p>\n

As a general rule, you are entitled to flight compensation if your flight is canceled less than 14 days before your scheduled departure or if your flight is delayed 3 hours or more.<\/p>\n
The amount of compensation depends on where you’re going. For example, on a trip to Thailand, you are entitled to 600 Euro (approx. 4,500 DKK). If four of you are traveling together, your total claim can be as much as DKK 18,000.<\/p>\n
However, if there is a so-called “extraordinary circumstance” that could not have been avoided, the airline is not obligated to pay flight compensation.<\/p>\n
Whether the airline can invoke this exception depends on the specific circumstances.<\/p>\n
A good guideline is how air traffic is otherwise handled. If other airlines can take off and land – perhaps with a shorter delay – this is hardly an “extraordinary circumstance”.<\/p>\n
Conversely: If the entire airspace is closed and you might be delayed 3-4 hours, you’re probably not eligible for flight compensation.<\/p>\n
