When are you entitled to flight compensation from China Airlines?
You are entitled to flight compensation in certain cases when your flight is delayed, canceled or if you are denied boarding. The rules for compensation are set out in EU Regulation (EC) 261/2004 and apply 1) for flights departing from an airport located in Europe or 2) if you arrive at an airport in Europe with a European airline.
As China Airlines is not a European airline, your right to flight compensation depends on the delay being from an airport in Europe. If you are delayed on your return flight from China, for example, you are not covered by the Air Regulation, and therefore you are not entitled to flight compensation in such a situation.
My China Airlines flight has been canceled
If your flight is canceled and you are not informed at least 14 days before departure, you may be entitled to compensation.
The compensation from China Airlines depends on the length of the flight and is either 250 Euro, 400 Euro or 600 Euro.
You can also choose to have your ticket rebooked or refunded.
My China Airlines flight is delayed
If your flight is delayed 3 hours or more upon arrival, you may be entitled to flight compensation from China Airlines.
The compensation from China Airlines depends on the length of the flight:
- For flights up to 1,500 km, the compensation can amount to 250 Euro;
- For flights between 1,500 km. and 3,500 km. the compensation can be 400 Euro;
- For flights over 3,500 km (and all flights outside the EU), the compensation can amount to €600;
China Airlines flight is overbooked
If you are denied boarding due to overbooking, you are also entitled to flight compensation.
The flight compensation must be paid by China Airlines immediately.
In addition, you are entitled to – at your option – rebooking or refund of the ticket.
