When are you entitled to compensation from Finnair in case of cancellation?

You may be entitled to compensation from Finnair if your flight is canceled unless

1) you have been notified of the cancellation by Finnair at least two weeks before the scheduled departure time; or

2) you have been notified of the cancellation by Finnair between two weeks and seven days before the scheduled time of departure and have been offered re-routing by Finnair so that you can depart no more than two hours before the scheduled time of departure and arrive at the final destination no later than four hours after the scheduled time of arrival; or

3) Finnair has notified you of the cancellation less than seven days before the scheduled time of departure and has offered you re-routing so that you can depart no more than one hour before the scheduled time of departure and arrive at the final destination no later than two hours after the scheduled time of arrival.

You may also be entitled to flight compensation from Finnair if your flight is delayed 3 hours or more.

Finnair compensation how much?

The rules on flight compensation are set out in the Aircraft Regulation (EC) 261/2004.

The destination determines how much flight compensation you’re entitled to – the further you have to fly with Finnair, the higher the compensation. For example, if your journey from Denmark is to Helsinki, you’re entitled to approximately DKK 1,865 (equivalent to 250 euros), and if you’re going all the way to New York with Finnair, you’re entitled to DKK 4,500 (600 euros) in compensation.

If four of you have been on vacation together to New York, you have a total claim against Finnair of up to 18,000 kr. (2,400 Euro), if the conditions for flight compensation from Finnair are met.
