Turkish Airlines has canceled my flight. What should I do?
If your flight is canceled, you may be entitled to flight compensation from Turkish Airlines.
Flight cancellation compensation is a kind of “Band-Aid” for the inconvenience of having to adjust to a new travel schedule. You could also say it’s a kind of compensation for the cancellation.
The rules on flight compensation can be found in EU Regulation (EC) 261/2004. You can read more about flight compensation here: Flight compensation – Flyadvokaten ApS.
Compensation for flight cancellation expenses
If Turkish Airlines cancels your flight and you decline a re-routing, Turkish Airlines must refund the full purchase price of the ticket. You must receive the money within one week.
If you buy new tickets from another airline and the new flight tickets are more expensive than the original ones, you can claim the difference.

Entitlement to meals in the event of a canceled flight
If Turkish Airlines does not provide you with reasonable meals while you are waiting for re-routing – perhaps sitting at the airport or staying in a hotel – you can buy food and drinks in reasonable quantities and then claim a REFUND from Turkish Airlines.
Remember to keep all receipts for your expenses. And remember that the receipts must state what was purchased and when.
Turkish Airlines is not obligated to cover beer, wine and spirits – not even in connection with meals.
