Delayed flight during stopover?
If the trip is booked as a package, you are entitled to flight compensation
If one of your flights is delayed and you miss your next flight, you are probably entitled to flight compensation if you arrive at your final destination with a delay of more than 3 hours.
This is certainly the case if it is a so-called “composite trip”, i.e. a trip that has been “subject to a single reservation” for which you have paid a single amount and received a reservation number (and the conditions for flight compensation are otherwise met).
However, the rules are not so clear-cut and case law points in several directions, so at Flyadvokaten we recommend:
- That you book your trip together in one booking;
- That you do not book your trip with a ticket broker (Kiwi.com, Flybillet.dk, Travellink, Supersaver, etc.);
- That you book the entire trip directly with the airline;
- That you book the entire trip with an airline based in an EU country, e.g. SAS, Lufthansa, Air France, KLM, etc.
This way, you are clearly in the best position if – contrary to expectations – your trip is delayed or canceled.
