Rules about delayed flights with Cathay Pacific Airways
When does the Air Regulation apply?
Luckily, you have some rights under Regulation (EC) 261/2004. Regulation (EC) 261/2004 if your Cathay Pacific Airways flight is delayed by 3 hours or more.
However, since Cathay Pacific Airways is not a European airline, your right to flight compensation depends on the delay occurring from an airport in Europe.
If you are delayed on your return flight from Singapore, for example, you are not covered by the Air Regulation, and therefore you are not entitled to flight compensation in such a situation.

About Cathay Pacific Airways
Cathay Pacific Airways is voted the world’s fifth best airline in 2024.
The award was announced at the Skytrax World Airline Awards, the world’s largest annual air passenger satisfaction survey. Some call it the airline industry’s version of the Oscars.
First and second place went to Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines respectively.
Cathay Pacific was founded in 1946 and is headquartered in Hong Kong.
Cathay Pacific offers an extensive route network with flights to more than 190 destinations in Asia, Europe, America, Australia and Africa. Its main base is at Hong Kong International Airport, one of the busiest and most modern airports in the world.
Cathay Pacific’s fleet consists of modern Airbus and Boeing aircraft, including the Airbus A350, Boeing 777 and 747.
The airline is a member of the Oneworld global airline alliance, giving passengers access to a large network of partner airlines and the opportunity to earn frequent flyer miles through its frequent flyer program, Asia Miles.
Flyadvokaten always recommends booking your flights directly with Cathay Pacific on the airline’s own official website: Cathay Pacific | Book flights & elevate your life.
You can also buy your flight tickets through a ticket broker such as Flybillet.dk, Travellink, Expedia or Flight Network.
Such ticket intermediaries receive a kind of “power of attorney” from the passenger to purchase the flight ticket and thus act as a kind of intermediary between the airline and the passenger. This complicates the passenger’s legal position.
The current Airline Regulation does not regulate against which of the two the passenger should make a claim for e.g. flight compensation or refund of airline tickets, and the passenger can quickly become a toss-up between Cathay Pacific and the ticket agent, where they both try to pass the responsibility on to each other.
The best legal position is to book the ticket directly through Cathay Pacific.
